Now, as Easter approaches is just the right time to be thinking of knitting that light summer shrug or jacket and so why not treat yourself to some of this fabulous Sirdar Raffaella? It’s so light and yet ideal for those evenings when the sun goes down and you need a little light cover up!

Raffaella is a gorgeously soft and drapey yarn and is perfect for knitting feminine ruffles, delicate lace and pretty knitted flowers. It knits as a DK so wouldn’t take too long to knit and it’s made from 51% Cotton and 49% Acrylic and needs 4mm needles. There’s a selection of pretty Summer shades on the website and some lovely Raffaella patterns too.

It looks amazing, just like a knitted patchwork quilt and although I have not yet had a go myself ‘I will’ following this excellent article in the April issue of Let’s Knit magazine. It’s all about blocks and triangles and about making the first row of base triangles and then building rows of blocks on top. Well it’s not quite as simple as that but it doesn’t look too difficult.

And then on the next page (52) of the April magazine there is this amazing bag pattern knitted in King Cole Riot Chunky, shade 658, just waiting for you to have a go and try entrelac for yourself.

Have a look at the King Cole Riot Chunky page on our website, there’s a selection of different shades to choose from but if you want to knit with the shade 658 featured then we have lots available on our online shop so there’s no stopping you having a go at this fabulous entrelac bag and at the same time you can learn a new knitting skill.

This is just a sneaky look at the Schoppel Wolle ‘Boots’ 100g Strange, (such a quirky and strange name for a knitting wool but then it does say ’strange’ on the lable doesn’t it? so perhaps it’s not that quirky after all). Still I love it!

It’s a 4ply yarn ideal for socks, scarves, shawls and little summer jackets and it comes in 100g skeins. The composition is 44% virgin wool, 14% nylon (good for socks!) and 42% of lovely mercerised cotton. There’s a fabulous 400m in the skein so 100g will make a pair of socks and you need sizes 2-3mm needles depending upon your knitting tension. Best of all it’s machine washable at 40 degrees, no not really best of all but it’s excellent that the yarn will machine wash especially for socks.

So why not pay us a visit in Perranuthnoe and see these lovely yarns for real or hopefully see them on line later today, (if I am able to master the back admin system totally on my own for it’s Sunday today and my ‘Girl Friday’, Bev, is home putting her feet up and knitting! (hopefully).

My choice for the ‘Yarn of the Week’ is the Lang Merino 120 which is a DK yarn, it’s so soft and made from 100% Merino wool. It comes in a 50g ball and has a length of 120 meters. Just right for knitting a cardigan or jumper for the coming months ahead. There is a lovely choice of shades and colours on the website so just have a look and be tempted!

Dear followers of my ‘News’ page – Just so that you don’t think I have deserted you for good I apologise for my absence during this month which has been due to a family breavement. However, I am now back from Yorkshire and will be following this bit of news with something much more positive and cheerful. In the meantime have a look at the changes on the home page of the website and although there are some mentions still of Christmas and gifts & presents it is also taking on a new image for the early months of 2012. ‘Daffodils’ which are all around us now in Cornwall – ‘lovely’, it just makes the heart ’sing’ to see fields full of them.

Also the January sale has not taken place as planned but all those of you who have left your email address will be getting a February Newsletter with information on the discounted yarns. So please watch this space!

For me this is such a special knitting wool and certainly one to covet! It is so so soft because of it unique construction which looks like a very fine and very light rope. The shade is magical, it has a silvery soft iridescent freshwater pearl effect and would make the most wonderful gilets, sweaters and accessories. It is a chunky yarn so would make a very light extra layer for these chilly Winter days when the cold winds seem to get everywhere. Fabulous for hats, gloves and scarves too!
